With eyes focused on Ascot – nearby Lingfield offers a Saturday morning race card, and the opportunity for our first Haggas bet of 2025 when Santorini Star returns to the track in the 10f Class 2 handicap due off at 1.25.
Those that followed me in 2024 will already be in profit from the filly, as she won over course and distance in December, winning a class 4 handicap with ease off a mark of 76. Backed from 5/2 into 6/5 . After the race jockey Richard Kingscote was full of praise for the filly suggesting she was better than the grade.
Normally an increase in her handicap mark of 7lb together with the step up in grade to a Class 2 event would be of some concern. However, this is a class 2 in name only as only 2 of the 12 runners are rated higher than 85 and both look to be at the top of their performance capability.
That combined with Kingscote’s comments suggest this race is well within her grasp, en route to a successful 2025 campaign which could end with some black type to her name.
The make up of the race is also in her favour with rivals drawn in 1 and 4 looking sure to provide a good pace. This should enable Marquand from stall 2 to lie prominently throughout and repeat her course and distance victory in December in very similar style.
She is a confident 2pt win bet.
2pt win Santorini Star 1.25 Linfield Saturday .
