The Harry Derham team have already had to survive a major setback to the season when they gallops where washed away by the storms. They have done remarkably well to get the show back on the road so quickly and the horses are back running in excellent form.
One of the last winners before the storms was No No Tango who ridden by Patrick Mullins led the field a merry dance to win an Amateurs event at Wincanton.
That was the 8yo’s first win and having moved to Derham from Charlie Longsdon he has scope for further improvement. His front running style is ideal for heavy ground at Haydock. By Sixties icon he is related to Sizing Europe and has the potential to be different grade to his rivals.
Other last time out winners Taras Hill, Margarets Legacy and Jack Tanner have also been reassessed by the handicapper, but their jumping lacked the fluency of No No Tango and I am confident that Paul O’ Brien can get the 8yo into a good rhythm out in front and prove to strong in the final straight and stay in in pole position to claim the prize.
