The weather has thankfully relented to allow a great day of racing on Saturday and with ground looking to be on the good side it provides a great opportunity for Tightenourbelts to win the Great Yorkshire Chase the 3.15 at Doncaster.
This looks an average renewal, with the top-rated runner on a mark of 141.
Market leader The Changing Man is always the bridesmaid and is up 9lb without winning. His main rival, Forward Plan, is also up 9lb after an agonising defeat last year. Anthony Honeyball is a brilliant target trainer, and this race looks to be Forward Plan’s main aim, because of the weight rises at the declaration stage the yard has booked 10lb claimer Chad Bament which gives the 9yo a great chance to avenge his narrow defeat in this race last year.
However, preference is for Tightenourbelts, trained by Emma Lavelle.
He runs off the same mark of 140 he carried when finishing fourth to Il Est Francais in last year’s Kauto Star Novices’ Chase. After being given time to regain confidence in his jumping, he won impressively last time out by 13 lengths. With the in-form Rex Dingle booked to ride, Tightenourbelts looks poised to give Lavelle another big win.
The yard is in great form and has an excellent record at the track. He is 10/1 with Hills and Bet 365 ( 5 places ) and 7/1 with Sky ( 6 places)
He is a young improving chaser facing battle hardened but largely exposed rivals and i expect him to improve past them with conditions looking perfect.
