Glen Road to keep Smith & Parkinson on track

The yard of Sue Smith and Joel Parkinson is in a rich vein of form, especially with relatively unexposed young hurdlers improving for a step up in trip.

They are sure to have a team ready for Wetherby on Saturday a track where they had a treble at the last meeting , but there are limited opportunities for young staying hurdlers at that meeting. They can however take advantage of this extra meeting at Newcastle where the 0-100 rated 2m6f handicap hurdle which closes the card at 4.05 sees Glen Road given a major chance to break his maiden tag.

Glen Road squeezes into this race as he is rated 100. The geldings last two runs over inadequate trips of 2m and 2m4f have shown he is handicapped to win when stepped up further up in distance. His last run at Wetherby was especially encouraging as he kept finding for pressure and the winner has gone in again.

This conditional jockeys ‘only’ event also throws up the opportunity if successful to win again unpenalised and although there is always the chance in this type of race to come up against one that has been completely hidden away and the brakes get released. Most if not all seen pretty exposed.

The cat is out of the bag with the yard and there will be no 4/1 to 11/10 as was the case with our bet The Big Braec last week but we should get around 9/4 early doors.

2pt win Glen Road 4.05 Newcastle
