Anthony Honeyball a trainer to follow this Spring

Getmetothemoon Can Continue Honeyball Revival at Plumpton

It has been a tough season for Dorset trainer Anthony Honeyball, compounded by the tragic loss of Forward Plan, the yard’s leading chaser. He looked set to go very close in the Great Yorkshire Chase before suffering a fatal fall.

Honeyball is a brilliant target trainer, but several long-term plans have been disrupted by the bad weather this winter. While he traditionally targets Fontwell and Plumpton for bread-and-butter winners, a slow start to the campaign has seen his strike rate dip at both tracks this season.

There have, however, been encouraging signs in recent weeks. His outstanding training performance in getting Firestreak to win a competitive Wincanton handicap after a two-year layoff was a notable highlight. He then produced a highly impressive bumper winner in Crackerjacque, who bolted up in what looked a strong event at Sandown.

Yesterday at Exeter, the yard enjoyed a 1-2 in the Veterans’ Chase, followed by a hugely promising run from Catchinisavo, who finished second to Kripticjim, an impressive winner for Joe Tizzard. Catchinisavo also finished ahead of well-regarded runners from the Skelton, Nicholls, and Derham yards, further suggesting the stable is turning the corner.

With the yard seemingly back in form, Getmetothemoon has been handed an ideal opportunity to get them back in the winner’s enclosure in the 4:45 Mares’ Handicap Hurdle at Plumpton.

The race has fallen apart, and with no obvious improver lurking in the field of six, the early price of 7/4 looks solid value.

Selection: 2pt win Getmetothemoon – 4:45 Plumpton
