Not a Light to shine for Callum Pritchard

Not A Light makes his handicap hurdle debut at Catterick on Monday for the in-form Peter Hobbs and Johnson White partnership—their first runner at the track under the newly combined training license. While Hobbs did send out one runner at this track when the license was solely in his name, this marks a fresh chapter for the yard. Callum Pritchard will also head north for his first ride at the track

The eight-year-old has had his share of setbacks but looked highly impressive when winning on his seasonal reappearance at Hexham. He’s been given ample time to recover, avoiding the risk of the dreaded bounce factor.

handicap mark of 113, reduced to 108 with Callum Pritchard’s 5lb claim, looks a fair starting point. The yard’s record with handicap hurdlers this year has been exceptional—of seven runners sent off as 1st or 2nd favouritefive have won. The only exceptions, Oh No Johnny (who struggled in heavy ground at Haydock) and Don’t Wind Me Up(similarly inconvenienced at Sandown), are both expected to make amends on better going.

This is no straightforward assignment, with Fosters Fortune and Balcomie Breeze both arriving in strong form, but I expect Not A Light to maintain the yard’s impressive winning streak in handicap hurdles ran in 2025
