Everything right for Dubai Honour in Sydney

Saturday 5.35 am UK time is the off time for the Tancred Stakes at Rosehill in Sydney in what looks set to be a straight shoot out between Dubai Honour and the ex Willie Mullins trained Vauban.

Everything has gone to plan for the William Haggas trained globetrotter and with the 2,400 metre trip ( just under 12F) likely to suit him better than Vauban and the forecast soft ground also in his favour i think he will go off around 2/1 favourite.

The Aussie layers will take no chances as they have been beaten badly by the Haggas team in recent years but the 7yo is fully expected to make the long journey for jockey Tom Marquand a successful one.

The stables first raider Al Mubhir was thrown well and truly in the deep end last weekend pitched in against Australia’s No 1 horse Via Sistina in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes. The Aussie star was sent off at 1-5 and won as expected. Al Mubhir weakenend to finish 6th beaten 11L – but at least gave the Haggas an inkling of the fitness levels of the Aussie raiding party. Dubai Honour runs well fresh and he should be spot on for Saturday.

The yard has entered a highly promising 3yo in the Class 2 conditions race the 3.50 at KemptonRhapsody is by the top class sire Ghaiyyath out of Soul Seeker who was best at 1m 4f, Saturday’s race over 1m looks short of what the filly will need as the season progresses.

However she was impressive when causing a surprise by winning on debut at 14/1. The form of the race is only ok but William Buick has been booked in Tom Marquand’s and she shouldn’t be dismissed.

If all the entries stand their ground this is going to be a highly informative contest, with the possible favourite Ellarie Sand giving an indication to the well being of the Ollie Sangster 3yo fillies alongside well thought of fillies from the powerful yards of Ed Walker, Owen Burrows, Andrew Balding and Roger Varian. It is a race that could easily have been staged at the upcoming Newmarket Craven meeting and is well worth a watch.

Godwinson will take his chance in Saturdays Lincoln Handicap and has an each way chance at odds of around 20/1 . The good to soft ground is perfect and he will be at the foot of the weights. Arguably his best performance last season was first time out when 2nd in the Newbury Spring Cup. He is 6lb higher in the ratings on Saturday which is enough – but if he gets a good draw there is no reason for him not to be in the shake up.

I will update members with further information in the Weekend Preview.

Camtank is due to make his debut in the 4.58 at Wolverhampton on Thursday. Ridden by Adam Faragher he will certainly be better for the race.
