Bermuda Princess to get valuable win.

Bermuda Racing Limited would have paid 150,000 to send their 105 rated filly Queen of Bermuda to Kingman in 2021.

They had kept Queen of Bermuda in their ownership and she rewarded them with 4 wins and Group 2 black type, trained by William Haggas. Her second foal by Kingman is Bermuda Princess who also started off life at Somerville Lodge showing glimpses of promise in three runs earning a handicap mark of just 65.

She was probably not suited to the hustle and bustle of Newmarket and was transferred to the stables of Ed Walker in Upper Lambourn.

The three runs for Haggas started when she was typically green in a race at Nottingham won by Liovanni who on her next start won the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot.

This is how her owners described the run.

GREEN, in capital letters is the best way to describe Bermuda Princess’s first run at Nottingham today. She looked great, behaved impeccably and broke well. Unfortunately, drawn wide she broke away from the field and was totally disengaged from then on, fly leaping and jumping every ridge including the finish line. As a result she had no race at all so we will reload and fire again in the near future. She is a talented filly who ran one of the fastest times at the Doncaster Breeze Ups so we are looking forward to seeing her develop.”

On second outing at Bath she was still very green but again showed promise.

Her final outing for Haggas was over todays course and distance where she showed improvement but was probably in need of a break as it was her third run in 6 weeks which can often take its toll, especially on 2yos prepared for the breeze up sales.

She made her debut for the yard in a 7f race at Kempton lat month beaten by just over 4L when looking in need of the run and after being held up not staying the trip in the hands of Oisin Murphy. The form of her comeback run and first for Ed Walker was boosted when the runner up won well in a class 5 handicap off a mark of 71.

She was dropped 2lb to a mark of 63 and returns to the track in a 6f all age handicap due off at 7.10. Bermuda Princess is not overly big and the choice of this contest means she can race in this class 5 grade but thanks to the weight for age allowance will carry only 9.00 stone instead of nearer to 10.00 stone in a 3yo only contest.

Another big bonus is her draw in stall 2. The 6f track at Kempton is greatly against those drawn high. The pace will come from stalls 1,3 and 4 meaning the the more fancied horses will have to stay wide from their outside draws or tuck in behind either way losing several lengths that is so crucial over the 6f trip. I expect Hector Crouch to sit behind the pace and then make hopefully a winning move at the cutaway approaching the final furlong.

The final icing on the cake comes from Ed Walkers form at the track which is excellent. In the period 1st April 2024 to 31st October 2024 with 3yo’s running in handicaps (there were no runners in November and December) he trained 5 winners from 14 runners with an average SP of 7/1.

The yard has hit form again in April this year when their first handicap runner (a 4yo) at the track this month Won on Monday at 5/1.

It maybe that she just a lowly rated horse but at an early price of 12/1 – it is too good an opportunity to bypass, especially as in terms of the breeding value , getting a win for Bermuda Princess, will equate to considerably more than the prize money for her breeder owners.

The early markets are impossible to second guess this time of year – as soon as any hint of money comes for a horse with a big stable the price can tumble but then drift dramatically when the racecourse markets open.

She is 12/1 in the overnight markets and although that is a fair price i am going to wait and take BOG from 8.00am tomorrow morning.

Recommended Bet 1pt ew Bermuda Princess 7.10 Kempton Wednesday.
