It promises to be a great season with plenty of high quality horses to follow and a dry spell at the start of the season creating solid form lines from the off.
Horse No 10 Treasure Time 4yo William Haggas rated 94
Treasure Time is ultra tough and was unlucky not to win at least one more big handicap prize as a three year old. That’s good news for 2025, as his mark of 94 allows for at least another 10lb before he will move out of handicaps. A big handicap at York Royal Ascot or Newmarket is well within his range.
Horse No 2 Archivist 3yo Wiliam Haggas rated 88
Transferred from Michael Stoute on his retirement this son of Dubawi has caught the eye of everyone at Somerville Lodge. He is only rated 88 and in some ways i am hoping he will go the London Gold Cup – King Edward Handicap route. The aim will be to break his maiden tag in the next couple of weeks to find out just how good he is. Don’t be surprised if that is Group1 company.
Horse No 3 Almeraq 3yo William Haggas rated 91 (RPR)
A horse that is largely under the radar this home bred Shadwell Estates Dark Angel colt will i believe develop into a leading 3yo Group Class sprinter this year. He showed a great turn of foot from the front at Yarmouth on soft ground, quickening off one stride in a style that only top quality horses posses. Closely related to the Group 1 winning filly Fairyland – fast ground should suit him as well.
Horse No 4 I am I Said 3yo Ralph Beckett rated 92 (RPR)
I like horses that spring a big surprise when trained by top connections. Twain the current Guineas favourite did this for Ballydoyle winning impressively at 25/1. I Am I Said did it for Ralph Beckett winning at 20/1 in the style of a potential Group 1 horse. Sure to get 1m4f he maybe more of an Irish Derby colt rather than Epsom and his return in one of the Derby Trials possibly Sandown is eagerly awaited.
Horse No 5 Pinhole 3yo Ralph Beckett rated 90(RPR)
Another to be transferred from Michael Stoute. Pinhole was exceptionally green when winning on his first start for Ralph Beckett. The son of Frankel is a typical Juddmonte Farms colt who will keep on improving with racing. he is an exceptionally good looking individual
Horse No 6 Dash of Azure 3yo Ralph Beckett rated 81 ( Wildcard )
Owned by the smartest gambler on the planet Tony Bloom Dash of Azure has been second on all three starts, including when heavily supported on his final start over 7F when beaten by Bermuda Longtail, form which looks very solid. First time out he was beaten by Guineas favourite Desert Flower. I dont think she stayed the 7f but she looks a very well handicapped horse of a mark of 81 and i expect her to progress through the ranks
Horse no 7 Lake Forest 4yo William Haggas rated 110
The top rated of my 10 to follow Cape Forest is rated 110. However he is totally unexposed over a trip of 7f. He must have fast ground . I have a feeling they may try over a mile on fast ground – but his main target will be the Group races over 7F but he must have fast ground
Horse no 8 Realign 3yo William Haggas rated 84 (RPR)
I tend to favour horses over sprint trips Haggas is incredible at getting them to keep improving. I expect Realign and Almeraq to follow in the footsteps of the existing stars Montassib and Unequal Love and contest groups races over 5f,6f and 7f as the season progresses. His form at 2 was high class and after winning his maiden he will progress into Group company.
Horse no 9 Double Rush 3yo C Hills rated 85
Charlie Hills had the season from hell in 2024 but thankfully the yard is back firing and significantly their 3yo sprinters are leading the way. For 7 days I thought Double Rush had been left on a mark of 77 after his win at Wolverhampton which was achieved in a time that can only be achieved by horses rated 90+.
The handicapper has put him up to 85 but thats still gives him scope to achieve at least 3 handicap wins as his season progresses
Horse no 10 Seo Linn 5yo P Twomey Not rated on Flat
Paddy Twomey is a brilliant target trainer and plotted the victory of Seo Linn in the 2025 Aintree Mares Bumper from the Autumn of 2024, she put up an incredible performance winning despite tanking her way and pulling Billy Lee’s arms out for the entire 2m trip.
Afterwards Twomey said his plan was now geared towards a flat campaign and she could well progress into listed or group company.
Twomey introduced a lovely 3 yo filly called Catalina DelCarpio to win first time out at Leopardstown on Wednesday and after a relatively quiet season in 2024 the yard looks set for a sparkling 2025.
