With attention on the Jumps finale at Sandown there are also good opportunities at some of the lesser meetings.
and I am particularly keen to follow the form of the Wolverhampton 6f Maiden won by Double Rush with French Sand and Kinswoman in 2nd and 3rd.
The race was won by Double Rush in a time befitting a Group horse and both French Sand and Kinswoman ran with great credit without being able to get in a blow to the winner who won by 4L.
French Sand goes back to Wolverhampton to contest a 13 runner novice stakes. She is drawn ideally in stall 2 and it is significant that Hollie Doyle goes to Wolverhampton to ride the filly. The presence of the well regarded Dubai Beach and Tropical Heat should ensure the price for French Sand holds up and I expect her to make every post a winning one.
Recommended Bet 3pt win French Sand 6.45 Wolverhampton.
At Doncaster’s evening meeting Kinswomen is up in trip to 7f in the fillies maiden at 5.50. She was eyecatching in third at Wolverhampton and it will take a good filly to prevent her winning on her third outing.
Harry Burns takes 3lb off and with the ground riding on the fast side the draw in stall 1 which is of concern, shouldn’t be an issue and i expect this superbly bred filly to win here before going onto better things.
Recommended Bet 2pt win Kinswoman 5.50 Wolverhampton
As predicted William Haggas’s facile Yarmouth winner on Tuesday Maelstrom is out under a penalty in the Haydock 4.25. He has 10’1 to carry but that won’t make any difference as the horse is huge weighing over 529 kilo’s.
I suspect that he will go off Evens or possibly odds on, as daft as that sounds for a competitive 6f handicap with 15 runners.
Clearly the 3yo should win easily as he looks a potential Class 2 handicapper.
Subscribers may wonder why i won’t be backing the 3yo at the short price. Very rarely I will break my 13/8 or bigger bet rule. This is why I won’t in this case.
- Before Yarmouth Haggas said he didn’t think the horse was well handicapped.
- He had put on a huge amount of weight from 2 to 3
- Despite these stable negatives the horse was still backed from 10/3 to 6/5 which probably means the Yarmouth race was very weak with nothing fancied and the promise of Maelstrom was sufficient to win.
- This is a significantly more competitive race and he may have beaten very poor horses at Yarmouth.
I don’t think he will be available at a backable price of 13/8 or bigger but despite the possible negatives listed – if he was 13/8 or bigger i will back him to a 3pt win Stake
The bonus win for the yard of Al Aasy against our slightly unlucky losing bet on Almaqam and bold run of the other Haggas runner Sea Force on Friday suggests Saturday could provide the yard with a bumper payday. Apart from Kinswoman and Maelstrom already covered I will provide a further update and additional bets in a Saturday Midday Bulletin. Here are the other horses entered.
1.30 Haydock- Opportunity
Derby entry very promising debut behind the ill fated Falconer. Looks hot race first time out as a 3yo.
3.35 Leicester – Mamma Maria
Interesting – disappointed when heavily backed last 2 runs as a 2yo. Well handicapped first time out as a 3yo. Ground will suit.
4.55 Haydock – Silver Chamber
Bit like Opportunity promising first run behind Better Times Ahead. Looks good race probably best watched first time out as a 3yo.
5.25 Haydock – Yabher
Probably flattered by first time out win as 2yo . Needed run at Newmarket and has been dropped 2lb but two very well regarded horses in opposition in Carron ( very interesting ) and Tremolo.
5.35 Ripon – Sam Hawkens
Very disappointing but has only had two runs for the yard – could be best fresh – yards runners at track always respected and Fallon goes here rather than riding potentially well fancied horses for the yard at Leicester and Wolverhampton.
7.00 Doncaster – Raneenn
Now dropped to right grade having been highly tried after wins at 2. Needed run on AW in March . Can run a bit too freely but far from discounted.
Summary
The yard is in great form and it is not unknown on Saturday meetings for them to have 5 or 6 winners from a dozen or more runners. They have 8 on Saturday and i anticipate three or four winners. The key is getting the right ones.
There is likely to be at least one further recommended bet confirmed around midday on Saturday.
