The racing on Sunday is fascinating with a Group 1 on offer at Longchamp and two ultra competitive cards at Southwell and Wetherby.
There are plenty of highly regarded maidens going to post from yards in peak form.
Roger Charlton’s Clermont Ferrand 14.00 Wetherby
Ralph Beckett’s Venezuelan and Simon Crisford’s Dixieland Blues 5.15 Southwell ( very Strongly fancied)
William Haggas has his foot hard down on the pedal with 29 entries between today and Friday including 5 this afternoon. Here are my thoughts:
2.00 Wetherby Orionis First time out 3yo better for race
3.00 Wetherby Arabian Force Best chance of a winner today in what could be a weak contest. However generally horses from the yard that run very green on debut and are then turned out quickly usually need another race to be anywhere near ready to show their best.
4.15 Southwell Russian Crescendo Managed too find one of the weakest novice stakes races to be run at Ascot and then followed up in another poor race at Kempton. Will need to improve 7lb this year to justify her mark of 84. Thats possible but unlikely first time out. Sir Marks Prescott Overture looks a filly to follow this season.
4.45 Southwell Bintjeddah Doesn’t look well handicapped of 84 and will need to improve to warrant that mark – unlikely first time out. Warrdah and The Terminus look progressive fillies in what looks a good quality class 3 handicap for the track.
5.15 Southwell Muhaajim
Similar comments to Arabian Force in the Wetherby 3.00. This will be the first test of the Wood Ditton a race that can either be very good or bomb badly. At least 3 useful highly regarded rivals here – a race to watch.
A day for the future and no need to get involved with a lot of activity and bets later this week and throughout the month of May.
