Lets start with the Haggas 3yo’s running for the first time this season:
Pearla 1.10 Newmarket
Pergola 6.13 Newcastle
Both will be better for race and will only win if it is a weak contest or they are exceptional horses but that will only be known after the race.
Haggas sends the 3yo National Park to Gosforth Park ridden by Adam Farragher in the 6.48.
The son of Dubawi ran well in a Kempton maiden won by the potential Group 1 Juddmonte Farms colt Cosmic Year. However, the winner aside the form looks weak and i think he will need a stiffer test of stamina to be seen at his best.
In the 3.10 at Goodwood Ceiran Fallon heads south to ride Chorus who showed the expected improvement when stepped up in trip to win on her final outing as a 3yo. She was put up 10lb to a mark of 93 which she maybe able to overcome as the season progresses, but first time out on ground that could be quick enough I will watch rather than get involved.
Onto Waleefy in the 3.45 at Goodwood. This horse is a half brother to Baaeed and has gone off favourite on all of his 8 runs. Generally disappointing he has won just 2 showing a preference for fast ground. He has won over 6f at Newmarket when just getting up in the final strides. I know there were comments that he will better over a mile but is dropped back to 6f after running over 7f in his last three outings.
He was due to run at Musselburgh over 7F in the middle of April, but was withdrawn due to have ben found coughing.
The 6f track at Goodwood is one of the fastest in the country and unless he is a horse that is getting faster with age ( it happens) there is just too much against him on Friday to get involved especially at the first price of 9/4.
No William Haggas Bet Friday
Our first bet of the day is at Newmarket in the 3.30 where I have taken the early 7/4 about Tom Clover’s Fifty Nifty. He is very much a horse to follow after narrowly failing to land a gamble over course and distance at the Craven meeting when short of room and in need of the outing.
This looks easier and on fast ground which he loves he looks a banker to start the month with a winner for us.
The Tom Clover yard is one I increasingly follow and this horse is on the up and could well be a serious contender for big 7F handicaps like the Victoria Cup at Ascot and Banbury Cup on the July Course here at Newmarket.
3pt win Fifty Nifty 7/4 – 13/8 3.30 Newmarket Friday
