A winner from two very well backed selections on Wednesday has got the ball rolling on what promises to be a great weekend followed by the York Dante meeting.
A quiet start on Thursday with no entries from our main yard and a trappy looking main Chester card.
There is one horse I am interested in which runs in the 7.55 at Chelmsford the 3yo Kittens Joy colt Killenaule, who runs for the first time in a handicap off a mark of 77 less Kaiya Fraser’s valuable 3lb allowance, for trainer James Eustace.
The colt was given a quiet ride by Jamie Spencer in the race that the top rated William Haggas colt Crown of Oaks finished third behind Point of Contact
On his first outing of the season he ran a race full of encouragement ridden by Fraser when 3rd over a 1m at Southwell. He looks sure to be suited by the step up to 10f back on the AW surface.
The value of the Newbury form will be tested over the next few weeks. So far only Mighty Boy has ran. He was beaten 4l by Killenaule and went onto to run really well to finish just over 3l in 4th behind the very useful Sing Us A Song now rated 92. Mighty Boy was rated 78 which suggests that Killenaule could be 6-8lb ahead of the handicapper, if reproducing his Newbury form.
There are potentially 3 or 4 other improvers in what is a good handicap for the track, but the early market price of 4/1 allows us to back the 3yo each way
