York opportunities await..

It is not uncommon for the Haggas team to withdraw horses from big races, if they are not spot on and that has been the case with Elmonjed ante post favourite for the Churchill Tyres Handicap 2.42 York Weds but not declared at the overnight stage. If drawn close to the far rail (low) he would have been a 3pt bet.

Although it is frustrating I have learned to trust the yard’s judgement and cautious approach. If a horse is not exactly right it is unlikely to run to its best and the decision not to run has saved as a losing bet.

That paves the way for Two Tribes the mount of Ryan Moore. However, booking Moore means it will be half the price it should be and more importantly it’s a horse that comes from off the pace – a racing style totally unsuited to fast ground races on the Knavesmire. It has also been drawn in stall 15 . I will leave the race alone.

There are several Haggas runners declared Wednesday plus a couple of other horses entered in the diary.

Also a horse that is 10/1 plus on Thursday is a possible bet if draw is good.
