Irish Raider to good to ignore…

Its unusual for me to oppose an improving William Haggas handicapper but there is a chance I will as Reset may overturn Santorini Star in the Goodwood 3.15 on Friday.

Santorini Star has landed two of three hefty wagers we have had on her and she certain to improve stepped up to 12f. However the 6lb rise to a mark of 89 was steep for her Brighton win and she also faces having to go Left Handed for the first time on a track that is notorious for finding horses out.

The Joesph O’Brien trained Reset was purchased out of Henry Candy’s yard having been one of only 3 winners for that stable in 2024.

First time out for his new owners he won a competitive handicap at Sligo which is the closest track Ireland has to Goodwood.

The horse is now part owned by leading racing journalists Kevin Blake and Nick Luck which is surely the reason O’Brien sends her to Goodwood on Friday in an attempt to follow up that Sligo win which was achieved despite having met trouble in running.

It is a race where I want to wait and see how the market develops before having a bet – which i will confirm at 12 noon on Friday.

In the 3.00 Haydock I was gutted to sea French Sand declared here as they have blown what was a great handicap mark in search of black type. She has upwards of 25lb to find with Unequal Love who can put aside a flat seasonal debut run at Newmarket and win this race for the Haggas yard and follow up the win of Sense of Duty in 2022.

Like all of the yards sprinters Unequal Love needed her run first time out but was noted staying on well near the finish. There will be a red hot pace here from those drawn in the centre of the track and I expect Unequal Love to pick them off on the stands side inside the final furlong. I would have liked to seen the yards horses run better today and have downgraded the bet from a 3pt to a 2pt Bet.

Diary of a Season 2pt win Unequal Love 4.00 Haydock

in the 16.10 Tsuki will be odds on to follow up her impressive debut win at Goodwood and will not reach the minimum price we require to get on, she is fully expected to win easily.

A couple early for Saturday – I was at Ascot when Old is Gold made its debut and I think it looks a good thing for the Bet 365 2yo Trophy at Beverley 2.45 on Saturday. The unraced Karl Burke trained Naval Light is favourite but it will have to be superstar to beat the more experienced Andrew Balding colt. They currently bet 13/8 and 5/2 and i think this will be reversed at post time.

2pt win Old is Gold 2.45 Beverley Saturday

And in the Temple Stakes at Haydock i don’t think American Affair will be impacted by any rain but there is a big chance the stands rail will be favoured. Washington Heights will make the running from stall 8 and will pave the way for American Affair to cut him down inside the final furlong. The withdrawal of the Ante-post favourite Night Raider opens the door for American Affair to take this step in class in his stride.

1pt ew American Affair 6/1 3.30 Haydock
