In the first week of the season we advised subscribers that there was a distinct possibility that the John and Thady Gosden yard were ready to put behind them a couple of frustrating campaigns and return ready to challenge for many of the top races.
That prediction has already been proven with the yard claiming the Group 1 Lockinge and the Group 1 Irish 2,000 Guineas and of course very unlucky not to win the English version of that classic.
On Thursday they launch another potential star in Ombudsman who was one of the few 3yo’s last season from the yard to show top class potential. The Brigadier Gerard Stakes due off at 7.35 on Thursday has been a long term target and with Ryan Moore booked he is sure to be well supported.
It is difficult to predict how much he will need the run and he meets a race fit Almaqam ridden by Oisin Murphy. They bet 2/1 and 5/2 the pair and it is race to watch with the future in mind for both as potential Group 1 horses.
The yard sends out 9 runners on Thursday and all have some sort of chance.
The one i want to back is Wicked who makes his handicap debut of a mark of 80 ridden by James Doyle for his retainers Wathnan Racing.
I am very keen to follow the form of the Novice Stakes races won by Bedouin Prince and Bowmark as I am certain those two colts are Group horses and there were very well bred horses behind that will be racing off marks in the low 80’s of which Wicked is the first.
Wicked was 2nd to Bedouin Prince and in third was Noble Horizon who could well be a bet for us on Friday.
The early price of 9/2 allows us to put a toe in the water of the form without too much risk in a very competitive race with many improving 3yo’s and I am going to have just 1/2pt each way – 4 places are available.
I will put out the noon update on Thursday to confirm potentially further bets on Thursday.
Diary of a Season Thursday 0.5pt ew Wicked 6.05 Sandown 9/2 4 places
