We have so far this season put up 4 x 3pt bet recommendations from the William Haggas yard and all 4 have won.
No 5 is fully expected to keep the record intact as Archivist finally gets the opportunity to lose his maiden tag and set himself up for a Royal Ascot assignment.
He goes to post in the 4.17 at Leicester on Tuesday in a race in 2021 where Haggas introduced the great Baaeed who won on debut at 4/1. Archivist is no Baaeed and won’t be 4/1 but with Ralph Beckett running a couple and Charlie Johnston running a promising type – the price should hold up.
The 3yo has joined the yard from Michael Stoute’s and ran a race full of promise on stable debut at Nottingham behind Secret Theory. That form is Ok without suggesting Archivists mark of 86 is excessive.
However, significantly Archivist was made Ante Post favourite for the London Gold Cup attracting a fair amount of support from 8/1 into 4/1 only to be withdrawn at the overnight stage.
I am certain a tilt at Royal Ascot handicap is on the cards probably the Golden Gates over 10f a race Somerville Lodge is yet to win but in which they have had very few fancied runners.
The yard had a big setback with another of their highly touted maiden 3yo colts when Crown of Oaks got turned over at 1/3 at Redcar, Noble Horizon was also touched off at Chepstow but The Kings Falcon delivered in style at Carlisle and I fully expect Archivist to make no mistake. He can book his place at Ascot and provide Tom Marquand with the start to June he will be looking for after what by his standards was an average month in May.
The yard also runs Another Abbott in the 5f sprint at Lingfield due off at 8.15 but races on the straight track at Lingfield are nothing short of a farce with the races determined by who gets the quickest start and gets onto the stands rail.
Another Abbott is poorly drawn in stall 3 and with three or four potentially faster starters inside him he could be hopelessly positioned after the first furlong. Unfortunately its a potentially good bet will we have to passby.
