With the ground just on the soft side of good at all the tracks and a dryish day forecast we have a clearer picture about the racing on Friday.
The Epsom Derby on Good to Soft ground which shouldn’t hamper the chances of the two Group 1 hot favourites Calandagan and Desert Flower in the Coronation Cup and the Oaks.
Both are justifiably short in the market and it will be great if both win impressively to add further quality to a season which has the makings of vintage year of flat racing.
There is still nothing that appeals to me at Epsom my focus is on improving 3yo’s and apart from the opener which is a minefield the rest of the Epsom card still makes no appeal.
Over to Doncaster and the money in the excellent novice stakes the 6.40 has come for the Jane Chapple Hymn horse Hard Endeavour. Again owned by a team where money is no object.
Mudbir has drifted out to a backable 9/4 but with High Degree a very nice William Haggas horse running and a Goldophin horse Kings Charter I have decided to watch and wait to back these in handicaps down the line.
At Goodwood the quality of racing is poor for the track and the Haggas runner Mahra’s Love in the 7.09 was put in too short at 9/4 and has drifted to 10/3 She is unproven over 7f on ground with cut and is poorly drawn in stall 4.
It is entirely possible she could improve and win but the market suggests otherwise and if she does she will almost certainly win again under a penalty and we can back her with confidence, which would not be the case today.
In conclusion No Bet recommended today but if the ground stays as it is i expect it to be good day for well backed favourites. Good luck with your punting.
