Haggas team in full swing from Wednesday…

A quick note on Royal Ascot – Economics has suffered a muscle injury and is out of the meeting. Another in a series of high profile horses forced to miss next weeks festival.

Regulars will know my reluctance to back Haggas horses Ante-Post as unless conditions are spot on they will not be declared at the final declaration stage.

I am hoping some bookmakers go NRNB once the entries are made. There looks to be big opportunity for Archivist to win the Golden Gates off his revised mark of just 90 following his win last week. I will keep you all updated on the markets once they are formed

4 runners at 4 different meetings on Wednesday for the Somerville Lodge team. The most obvious winner is Valiancy the final runner who heads north to contest the Hamilton 7.30 the 1m3f Novice Stakes ridden by Danny Tudhope.

Haggas sends his stamina laden 3yo’s to the Scottish track for vital experience and in the hope the handicapper does not rate them harshly. In recent season’s the likes of The Reverend, Wafei, Dramatic Star, Godwinson and Unlimited all running here before contesting handicaps at the major tracks.

Valiancy will be odds on probably long odds on.

Retained Stable jockey Tom Marquand has elected to go to Kempton to ride Pergola in the 1m3f Fillies stakes at 6.40. Because there were only 3 runners on her last outing at Bath I believe the run has been under rated. The winner could be one of Sir Mark Prescotts rapid improvers when handicapping and i have watched the race a few times and I think Pergola ran with a good deal of promise. Despite running very green and pulling hard she stayed on really well and will relish this step up in trip.

We are going to get a good price with the majority of the field trained by leading stables and showing more obvious signs of promise. I think she is well worth an each way investment and could well be available at 8/1 plus.

At Lingfield in the 4.30 Tsuki is out again following her 1/4 on defeat at Haydock where she was beaten fair and square by what could turn out to be a useful Charlie Johnston trained filly.

That performance did indicate that the form of her debut win at Goodwood did not amount too much and i expect her rating of 78 is about right. She has a chance here but only if Farragher gets across to the Golden Highway at Lingfield near the stands rail and makes all. The straight course at Lingfield is the best in the country for getting horses well handicapped. Simply just run in a straight line from any stall drawn more than two off the stands rail and you will get a mark 5lb to 10lb below what is correct.

The turf course on the straight track is a joke and is not fit for purpose. Tsuki will be short probably around 11/8 and is not worth a bet being that short on this notorious track.

Finally Abloom is the mount of Cieren Fallon in the 3.15 at Yarmouth. She showed improved form at Chester in a race where the form links her closely to the Gosden trained favourite Chinkara now rated 78. Appleby also runs a potentially useful unraced filly called Heart of Eternity, who could be anything, but Buick goes to Kempton to ride Silent Love. Abloom will be 6/1 or bigger and looks an Each Way bet to nothing.

The Haggas runners are nearly all running very well and the 3yo’s improving with each run and i am going to back both Pergola and Abloom EW BoG in the morning the pair may drift before attracting support close to the off.

Wednesday Diary of a Season recommended bets:

1pt ew Pergola Kempton 6.40 BoG from 8.00 am
