I will deal with a couple of the Saturday early price markets on the TV races at York on Saturday before moving onto Friday.
Bookmakers basically are scared silly of William Haggas when he sends improving classy runners to the Knavesmire but they have waved the white flag early on Saturday, pricing up Archivist at 6/5 in the opening handicap at 1.55 and then Lake Forest at 7/4 in the Criterion at 2.25
Both should drift, especially Lake Forest , but sometimes you have to take your medicine and stick by the price rules we follow that serve so well as was the case with Itraaq on Thursday.
I am going to take a chance that the main target for Archivist is to come back here on the 12th July for the John Smiths Magnet Cup for which he is 14/1 Ante Post and have backed him each way – if he wins as expected on Saturday he will nearly be favourite for that race. But of course it is a high risk bet with the race three weeks away..
Recommended Bet 0.5pt ew Archivist 14/1 John Smiths Magnet Cup
Our second bet on Thursday Eternal Force , following the 9/1 winner Another Abbot , bumped into a very good horse in Danger Bay who providing he gets handicapped around 88-90 and isn’t aimed to high will be a 3pt bet for us next time out.
If you can watch the race back – it was run entirely to suit the winner. That doesn’t mean to say he needed that scenario just that any possibility of defeat was removed.
The Haggas team have good chances of winners on Friday at Newmarket starting with Abloom ridden by a top form Cieren Fallon . The yard has a fabulous record on the Friday night meetings at the track and the horses on Thursday have all ran exceptionally well.
Abloom is improving with her racing and improved 10lb on her last run at Yarmouth when only touched off by Chinkara who is certain to get black type as the season progresses.
The sectional times in that race showed she maintained a very good pace throughout the 7f and i expect her to be prominent throughout and power through the line. There is always a chance in these maidens that there is good horse waiting to spoil the party but i fancy her strongly to lose her maiden tag this evening.
Back to those cowardly bookies they have allowed us to get on at our minimum price of around 7/4 so a 2.5pt win bet in the 6.10 is advised.
Earthwatch heads into handicap company for the first time in the 7.45. Fallon is again on board and with front runners favoured on the track i expect Cieren to get an easy lead from the front.
They have got a decent initial mark of just 69 by running over 10f and back to 8f he has a decent chance of winning what is a weak looking contest.
As was the case yesterday when Haggas puts 3yo’s into handicap company with older rivals it is always worthy of note.
As you know i like to play the ew insurance and in the hope the dead 8 all go to post I recommend a 1pt ew bet BoG at around 9/2
In the 8.20 Art Market is on a recovery mission after running poorly at Goodwood. The track bias favouring front runners makes him an interesting proposition and Harry Burns takes off 3lb with Cieren Fallon riding one for John Ryan. However he has been on the go throughout the last 12 months and the career high handicap mark of 84 looks more than enough. No Bet Recommended
Tom Marquand stays at Newcastle to ride Anna Swan in the Group 3 race at 7.05. He rode brilliantly on Thursday which was great to see and had we have known that there would be a very strong head wind at the track we may well have backed Godwinson as it greatly favoured hold up horses.
Anna Swan has a stone to find with the favourite Diamond Rain and will need more than a favourable wind to beat the Goldolphin filly and she has place only prospects.
The other runner from the yard Luxmendi in the 2.20 at Doncaster but comes up against a 1/4 on favourite in Favourite Memory. No Bet
