I will back all BoG at 8.00 am

Treasure Time 2.25 Sandown

Along with Archivist – Treasure Time is my horse to follow for 2025 from the Haggas yard. He is one of a  list of five or six horses from Somerville Lodge that were narrowly balloted out of handicaps at Royal Ascot –  in his case the Hunt Cup.

Many of the yard felt he was the stable No 1 in the race ahead of Bullet Point, despite it being his first outing of the season . Bullet Point eventually finished 2nd to the Group rated My Cloud.

My concern is drawn 1 will Tom Marquand ride him prominently without getting caught up in a pace duel going into and out of the turn? Since the defeat of More Thunder Marquand has struggled to get the pace right and if goes too fast or gets trapped on the rails it could be painful viewing.

In the hope Marquand can judge the pace to  deliver the horse into a winning position at the 2f pole- Treasure Time who is a real fighter can make up for not getting his chance in the Hunt Cup and battle his way to victory.

Sir Lowrys Pass 3.15 Haydock

Ed Walker’s 4yo has been at the head of my list to win a top 1m 4f handicap this season.

His victory first time out provided ample evidence that he had progressed from 3 to 4 and also that he needs this 12f test . He looked so well handicapped that I backed him to win the Zetland Gold Cop over 10f.

Unfortunately the forecast rain never materialised and be couldn’t cope with the fast conditions over that trip and he ran well finishing in 3rd.

With light rain forecast throughout the day on Merseyside and stepped up in trip he should capture the Old Newton Cup from a great handicap mark.

3pt win Sir Lowrys Pass 3.15 Haydock.  10/3 BOG

Keble Spirit 4.45 Sandown.

Keble Spirit has had a break since breaking his maiden tag in a Nottingham handicap. He has preserved his mark of 76 but it was very interesting to note he had been entered for handicaps at Royal Ascot with connections fully aware that he would not get into the race from that mark.

He is a horse I’ve been waiting to back and he can improve beyond the market leaders who have their fair share of weight to cope with. Yabher is fancied by the Haggas yard and with Keble Spirit a decent price its worth having the saver on Yabher.

2pt win Keble Spirit 4.45 Sandown 7/1 BoG 1pt saver Yabher4/1 BOG

Valiancy 2.05 Haydock

Although this is a valuable prize I think connections are keen to win this as a stepping stone to get a rise in the horse’s handicap mark so he can run in the Qatar Goodwood Festival .

Haggas targets this race although last season the heavily backed favourite Dramatic Star was eased down after slipping on the bend.

Harry Davies is booked and is a jockey that excels in long distance turf races winning the last 2 Chester Cups .

The improving 3yo will be suited to the step up to 14f and can make light of the leniency shown by the handicapper in giving him a mark of 80 for his first venture into handicap company.

2pt win Valiancy 2.05 Haydock 3/1 BoG
