Haggas winning run to keep rolling…

I had a feeling that after Yabher landed the gamble for us on Saturday at Sandown that the stop start season of the William Haggas yard so far, would now go on a winning run.

Muhaajim’s odds on success at Pontefract on Tuesday meant 5 out of the last 6 horses from the yard have won with the other one finishing second. We started to cash in with Binhareer on Monday at 13/2 and the next period Wednesday through to Saturday will involve the busiest and hopefully most successful of the year.

On Wednesday Haggas sends out a team of 4 horses to three tracks all evening fixtures and all 4 look to have excellent chances of continuing the good run.

Best bet of the day is Molten Sea in the 19.20 at Kempton. The further she goes the more she battles and she was given an entry in the Class 2 Queens Stakes Handicap at Royal Ascot over 2m 3f a race her dam finished third in. That was just three days after her narrow, unlucky defeat behind Cavern Club at Chester, who was able to nab her late from out wide, and although she battled back the 4yo went down by a short head.

On Wednesday she has a perfect draw in stall 3 and although there are potential pacemakers i expect Marquand to either sit just behind or dictate from the front. She is still really attractively weighted off a mark of 73. Her dam Mill Spring progressed from a mark of 77 to win off 95 and has also produced another horse rated in the high nineties that won here at Kempton on the AW.

Recommended Bet 3pt win Molten Sea 7.20 Kempton BoG 7/2

At 6.00pm Santorini Star heads over the water to Fairyhouse to contest the 1m 6F Group 3 Stanerra Stakes. Chris Hayes has been booked and his record for Haggas in Ireland is 45% with 5 winning rides from 11 with 3 others placed 2nd and 3rd.

Santorini Star was thought to be a good thing at Pontefract although we let her run unbacked because of the short price. It is track where being caught three or four wide is curtains and thats exactly what happened from a wide draw. She stayed on well enough to suggest this further step up in trip is well within her grasp.

The right handed galloping track will suit her better than Pontefract and I think she will be available at an each way price of 5/1 or bigger as the market develops.

The Kempton 6.50 Novice Stakes over 1m 3f is a hot race in which the highly touted Skimmer will need to be a horse capable of running in the high 90’s if he is going to give 6lb to the Haggas trained Crown Imperial and the James Eustace runner Sea of Kings. Throw in the extremely well bred Gosden debutant and it is race packed full of future winners.

However, i think Crown Imperial will come out on top on Wednesday evening. He is a half brother to the Arc winner Waldgiest out of Waldlerche who has produced 8 horses 5 rated well in excess of 100+, two rated in the high 80’s and the eighth is Crown Imperial . Most of the family like some cut which is the reason for coming to Kempton. He was sent off 5/2 favourite on debut at Newbury but as is usual with Haggas horses first time out, ran green before getting the hang of things late on. Drawn ok in 7 in this big field of 14, (Skimmer is drawn very wide in 13), I am confident Marquand will ride him like the class horse in the field and be prominent throughout before winning with a bit in hand.

Recommended Bet 2pt win Crown Imperial 6.50 Kempton 7/2 BoG

The very promising High Degree looks to break his maiden tag in the 7.40 at Ffos Las and although there are 12 rivals it does not look to offer much in the way of quality and i will be surprised if he is bigger than Evs and also if he gets beat.!

No Bet Recommended.
