Class to the fore on Super Saturday…

Let’s hope the touch of luck that didn’t go our way Friday is with us on Saturday, it is our biggest staking day of the year.

The last 3yo to win the historic John Smiths Magnet Cup was back in 2010 when the Michael Bell trained Wigmore Hall landed a gamble from a mark of 101.

In fact due to the clash with the big 3yo handicap at Newmarket 3yo’s rarely contest the race. When the Haggas team sent out Remaadd last season he was the first 3yo to contest the race since 2019. Remaadd ran well off a mark of 101 beaten around 3L.

Archivist is in a different league to Remaadd and he will go to post in the hands of Adam Farragher who can do the weight at 8-7 from a mark of 95 following his recent course win.

Haggas loves York and he has won this race 3 times in the past 15 years. His last winner was in 2019 when Sinjaari ridden by Stevie Donaghue who had a similar profile to Farragher.

The topweight Thunder Run is probably the main danger – but overall this is not a strong renewal and Archivist is a group horse running in a handicap off a low weight. I expect him to go off as a very well backed favourite probably around 5/2 and then follow the 2024 winner Enfjaar and the 2022 winner Anmaat into group company.

2pt win at 7/2 and 0.5pt ew at 18/1-14/1

The Somerville Lodge team are fully expected to complete the big handicap double on the day which should be kicked off 15 minutes earlier when More Thunder can gain compensation for his incredibly unlucky defeat in the Wokingham.

The track will be no problem and he is expected to be even better over this 7F trip. There is talk of him potentially being good enough to run in the newly upgraded Group 1 City of York Stakes in August and he is still very well handicapped off todays mark of 98.

Surprisingly the yard only have 3 other entries on the day all at Newmarket. in the opener at 1.40 Fan Me will be better for the run on her debut and Raneen looks only to have an ew chance in the 2.12.

That leaves the very useful Raafedd who attempts to recover losses from being sent off favourite in the Britannia Stakes in the Bet 365 mile at 3.25. However he comes up against the Goldophin runner Bedouin Prince a horse that is top of the list in my tracker and despite knowing how highly Raafedd is rated i dont think he can cope with a top form Bedouin Prince.

I think Bedouin Prince, can join More Thunder and Archivist as Group horses that win top handicaps within a space of 40 minutes on Saturday afternoon.

Recommended Bet 2pt win Bedoiun Prince 3.25 Newmarket

In the July Cup i am pretty certain that Notable Speech will thrive dropped down to 6f. Although his wins have all been over a 1m i have always thought he looked a sprinter and I suspect as he has got older and stronger he has also got quicker.

The fact that Whistleblower is third in the market at 6/1 suggests this division is ready for the taking and i fully anticipate Notable Speech to take this field apart and set up a great clash with the Lazzat in the chase for the Champion sprinter of the year crown.

Recommended Bet 3pt win Notable Speech 4.35 Newmarket

On a crazy day of racing, we may miss one or two winners but it should be a day for the cream to come to the top and the 4 top class horses we are backing should provide great entertainment and a profitable day.
