Time for Quality to show…

The Haggas yard have not really got going at the highest level this season with Al Aasy’s win at Sandown the only Group race success in UK and Ireland.

This time last year they had already sent out 4 group winners and ended up with 11 in total. In 2023 it was 12.In 2022 it was 15. If they are to match those numbers they will need to get a wriggle on!

On Wednesday the 2yo Desert Treasure won well on debut overcoming all the usual inexperience shown by debutants from the yard. She could be very useful – we will see on her next run.

On Thursday the yard begins the week in earnest with three runners. The long awaited first win for Noble Horizon will surely happen in the 2.30 at Leicester where he will be long odds on.

In the Chepstow 3.10 Polygram the mount of Oisin Murphy will be at the head of the market alongside the Haggas trained Seren Star. To my way of thinking Polygram’s form is 10lb superior to Seren Star and i expect her to go off at around 4/6 but the early prices were wrong and put her in at my minimum 7/4 bet price which was to big to ignore.

She has been beaten by three very useful fillies in her races whereas the Haggas filly went backwards from a debut run that flattered her. She may bounce back but I am prepared to bet against her and invest in Polygram.

Recommended Bet 2pt win Polygram Chepstow 3.10 .

Finally on Thursday Magical Idea goes to Leicester in the 4.05 for her first start in a handicap in preference to an entry later in the week at Newmarket.

As is the case with all well bred fillies a win is the first priority but the handicapper has had nothing to go on and the mark of 66 looks ok for what she has achieved. However that can be said of all her 6 rivals. She was put into the market at around 5/2 but if there is significant market support for her I expect she will win in what is a very poor contest even for a Class 5.

Her run at Windsor on her second outing is by some way the most promising shown by any of the fillies in this race and last time at Pontefract behind stable mate Wujjood got her this handicap mark

On breeding she should hack up. It’s a race where I would rather back her at 2/1 strong in the market than 4/1 – Thats what has happened overnight This does look a great opportunity to get that important first win.

Diary of a Season 2pt win Magical Idea 4.05 Leicester 2/1 BoG

On Friday Somerville Lodge sends a huge team of eleven runners to post. I get the feeling that the stop start nature of the season is wearing thin and the kitchen sink is being aimed at the winners enclosure over this weekend.

Another half a dozen look set for Saturday and thankfully Sunday we have break because there are another nine entered on Monday.
