Sub Standard Saturday…

This season just keeps on providing us with results that are extremely hard to take. The Glasgow Stakes was only a tight finish because yet another poor ride resulted in Arabian Force not being able to accelerate and win his race until too late. He was beaten a nose when he should have won 2L as the favourite. although the winner, as expected didn’t stay.

I just cannot understand when races are ran at a slow pace why jockeys keep horses stuck in behind pacesetters. The best spot the danger 3f or 4f out and get into a challenging position.

With the King George at Ascot next week and Stewards Cup day at Goodwood the following weekend, racing this Saturday is a bit below par.

With heavy rain forecast across the country- caution is advised.

The Haggas team have taken the foot of the pedal on Saturday with The Reverend and Sir William looking to recover tarnished reputations. Both will be far too short based on their questionable attitude to racing.

The Reverend in the Ripon Bell Ringer at 3.55 will be odds on and is a No Bet. The same applies to Sir William who will, though be odds against, in the 7.15 at Doncaster.

In the 4.10 at Newbury Wujjood may go off at a decent price with Sea the Wonder from the Beckett yard, Glistening from the Gosden’s and Consent at the head of the market.

I think a horse capable of running to a mark of 90 will be good enough and Wujjood suggested on her Nottingham win that is within her capabilities, especially given her breeding however that also suggests 10f could stretch her stamina and overall she is just a bit too risky to bet on especially on rain softened ground

At Newmarket in the 4.55 Chorus will run her usual tough race but has two fast improving 3yo fillies in Underwriter and Spirited Style to overcome and whilst one may not come forward its difficult to see both not doing so and Chorus can get more black type but the Bold that indicates a win is unlikely.

Which leaves Another Abbot in the 6f handicap at 7.05 . He has a 5lb higher mark following his course and distance win last month.

This is pretty much the same race and with the front running Dashing Dick in stall 3 – Marquand can track the pace near to the stands rail from stall 6 which was a favourable track position at the last meeting but the forecast rain is likely to be against him
