A month like no other continued with our only bet of the day getting touched off when looking certain to win at 9/2. We crack on!!
Before Sky Majesty won the Group 3 Firth of Clyde at Ayr last season connections were concerned that the quick ground would be against her. She just managed to get home but next time out on Soft Ground at Chantilly she produced her best performance to date. Showing a great attitude to beat the Cheveley Park runner up Daylight by over a length
She goes to post on Wednesday evening following two runs this season. The first at Chelmsford where she looked badly in need of the run and finished 3rd behind Sayidah Dariyan who is now rated 112 and is heading towards the top of this years 3yo sprint division.
Last time she was pitched into the Commonwealth Cup where she finished 8th beaten 5l. The form of that Group 1 has proved to be exemplary.
The Runner up Arizona Blaze easily won the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes recording a Timeform Rating of 118+. The afore mentioned Sayidah Dariyan won a Group 3 at York recording a Timeform rating of 112+. The 5th 6th and 7th contested the Group 1 July Cup with Big Mojo coming out best finishing 2nd with a Timeform Rating of 114.
She meets Lady of the Lamp who finished 6l behind her at Ascot on only 4lb worse terms and that filly is 4th in the market at 5/1 compared to the 7/2 available for Sky Majesty.
The race has never been won by a horse with a Timeform Rating of more than 104 – Sky Majesty is 108 and the only filly in the contest rated above 100. The 7/2 looks good value, especially with cut in the ground and a great stall position in 2.
She is a proven Group 2 class performer, bordering on Group 1 on soft ground, now running in a listed race. She does have to concede 7lb to several of her rivals but if she runs to her best that is well within her capability.
Diary of a Season Recommended Bet 2pt win Sky Majesty 7.00 Naas
The Haggas team only send 2yo’s to Catterick when there is cut in the ground. Over the past 10 years there have been only 10 and on every occasion bar one there has been soft in the going description. Of those ten juveniles five have won which makes Magic Box of interest as she heads north again just 5 days after her improved run over 6f at Hamilton.
That type of turnaround is very unusual for a Haggas 2yo runner in fact i can only find 2 – previously one won the other was 2nd.
She could have possibly won at Hamilton had Fallon not raced for the first 4f on the unfavoured stands side rail. The horse he tracked finished last. Once switched to the centre of the track he had 4L to make up but stayed on well to be beaten just over a length.
She will be suited to the step up in trip and connections must feel the soft ground will also help her. She has good pace which is crucial at Catterick.
As always with Nurseries there could be plot horse waiting to show their true ability but on what can be seen Magic Box has a good chance to record her 2nd win of her career. The pace-setting Willowhurn is in stall 8 giving Fallon the opportunity from stall 5 to tack across to the stands rail which is often the place to be on soft ground at this track. She has been put into the market short at 13/8 but hopefully will drift to around 9/4.
