Dylan Cunha summed up the quality of jockey’s at present when asked why his stable has seen an upturn in form his reply was- ‘because they are getting decent rides’ referring to the riding of Kyle Strydom now acclimatised to riding in the UK and giving his horses a decent chance in most races.
The ride on Molten Sea was typical of the current standard. She is a battler who basically stays. Her only win this season was when making all at a level pace and grinding out the victory.
It was bad enough when she wasn’t ridden to best effect at Kempton but for it to be repeated at York was inconceivable. She was tucked in behind the leaders who went at a crawl for 13 of the 16furlongs. She broke well and had every chance to set the fractionals which would have given her a great chance of winning, but she had absolutely zero chance given the way the race was run.
As nomal our selections from the Haggas yard have been well supported. In the 1.25 at York Bertellini is 5/2 from 4/1 . Another Abbot in the 8.15 Windsor is 13/8 from 5/2 and Tenability is 11/8 from 2/1.
We can only hope that they are positioned to give them the best possible chance of winning.
No Bet Sunday.
