Sandown Hag Tag Targeted…

Given the way his horses are trained so patiently it is important to focus data based on that reality. This means that 3yo’s in handicaps are prime targets for betting purposes in July and August, after they have gained experience and strengthened up with racing.

We have benefitted from this reality in recent days with the victory’s of Silver Chamber, Crown of Oaks, Tenability, all winning 3yo handicaps over a mile plus.

The last one to lose was Pergola who disappointed at Sandown when the ground changed to soft and she just couldn’t handle it.

On Wednesday evening the ground is back to Good to Firm and despite Pergola’s defeat the strike rate with 3yo from the yard running in July and August is still 33%.

There are two runners that meet the criteria on Wednesday and both can be backed.

I am a little weary of Earthwatch because he remains a maiden but he is improving and in all honesty was yet another horse that would have won last time at Newbury had Marquand been in top form.

Cieren Fallon is currently in good form and in a weak race Earthwatch who has finished 6,5,4,3,2 in her five runs can get the No 1 on her record on her 6th start.

Recommended Bet 1pt win Earthwatch 7.25 Sandown BOG

In the 8.30 Valiancy is down in grade after going off favourite for a 50,000 Class 2 handicap at Haydock on his handicap debut.

He missed the break and lack of experience told as he took his time to quicken up running on late. Owned by Wathnan Racing I think the plan was for him to win there and get a weight rise that would have got him into a staying handicap at Goodwood. That wasn’t to be but i think it is significant he has been targeted at a race during the festival here at Sandown and he can outclass the small field.

The form of the race has worked out exceptionally well with the three that have ran subsequently Many Men, Deepwater Bay and Pole Star all winning. I was pleasantly surprised that 2/1 – 7/4 is available as i put him in at around 5/4

Recommended Bet 3pt win Valiancy 8.30 Sandown 7/4 BoG

The yards other runners on the day at Goodwood have been covered off in the Goodwood Day 2 review which leaves Brotherhood of Man in the the 6.50 at Sandown who has it all to do against two very useful 2yo colts in Look to the Stars and Oxagon ( strongly fancied ) and Suhub in the Leicester 7.38 Leicester who will need to improve from a poor first run this season and this five race maiden will need to improve to overturn the odds on favourite.
