With the forecast rain looking inevitable I think it is well worth taking a price about one of the few horses that will be suited by the conditions in the shape of Maximised in the 1.55 at Goodwood.
The form of his Woodcote form on Good to Soft at Epsom has worked out really well and even though he was unsuited by the fast ground he faced at Newmarket the form of the July stakes looks the best juvenile form from a UK perspective.
I like the fact cheek pieces are on for the fast time as the Appleby team have a strong record when they resort to this headwear and he is well drawn in stall 7 to come across to the favoured stands rail.
The only slight question mark is the no show of stable mate Military Code yesterday but he flopped at Ascot previously and is not the most consistent of horses and he was the first 2yo from the yard running in group races at the track to finish outside the frame for 8 years. Their win record over that period is 50% and Maximised looks an each way banker. Buick will be happy back riding in the Goldophin blue and he can provide Appleby with his first winner at the meeting where they are fairly selective with their runners but maintain a strike rate of around 30%.
There is 9/2 available BoG and there seems no reason not to have a 1pt Ew interest, with everything in his favour and no worries should the heavy rain arrive early in the day.
