Quiet 48 hours as Focus on Saturday…

The Haggas yard appears to be focusing on Saturday at Newbury and then forward to York next week. On Thursday and Friday just two horses go to post on these shores and Chorus goes in search of black type at Cork over in Ireland on Thursday.

The Group 3 contest at 7.22 has cut up to just 9 runners and there is persistent light rain forecast for the next two days which is likely to result in the ground turning to Yielding. That will be good for Chorus.

Marquand has chosen to stay in the UK to ride at Salisbury but he missed a listed winner for the Yard earlier in the year and he may well have made another mistake with again Chris Hayes the beneficiary. Significantly Ryan Moore is not travelling to ride either of fillies declared by Ballydoyle including Island Hopping who was third in the Irish Oaks and will go off favourite. She was only rated 96 before that race and was basically used as a pacemaker.

This is just about a weak a Group 3 as you will find in Ireland and aside from Island Hopping only Elizabeth Jane is rated higher and she has previously been the mount of Chris Hayes , who gets on Chorus on Thursday evening.

The ground came right for Chorus last time at Newmarket but she was slowly away and is a filly that doesn’t like to be crowded in her races she was then bumped when making her move and was allowed to come home in her own time having an easy race that can forgotten.

With a distinct possibility that Island Hopping maybe relieved of pacemaking duties and will be settled in, Chorus will be on the front end and dominate the race as she did at Chantilly when finishing a close up third.

Chris Hayes is 5 from 12 riding for Haggas in Ireland but these fillies only Group races are a minefield as we discovered on Wednesday and there are better opportunities on Saturday.

The other Haggas runner on Thursday is Orionis in the 4.35 at Salisbury however there look to be better handicapped improving 3yo’s in the shape of Ghayya and Chilli Queen who should have too much pace for her.

The yard only has one runner on Friday where Suhub has been found a simple opportunity to finally break his maiden tag in the 5.52 at Newmarket. He will be odds on.
