Transformational Betting for 2026

York Day 1 Race by Race

We have already covered the 4.10 and 16.45 but this fantastic meeting kicks off with a sprint handicap at 13.50 the Group 3 Acomb stakes for 2yo’s at 2.25, the Group 2 Great Voltigeur at 3.00 and then the Group 1 Juddmonte International at 3.35pm

The opener at 1.50 is tricky and there looks nothing in the field with the potential of last years winner JM Jungle.

There is no better trainer of sprinters than Jim Goldie whose horses are in red hot form and although now nine Jordan Electrics has shown just enough on his two runs this season to suggest he retains a good level of ability.

Its not a race I have a strong an opinion about although those drawn low will be favoured with proven front runners Brazen Bolt, Vantheman, and Bergerac all with single figure draws. If forced to choose I would just favour Jordan Electrics.

The Acomb Stakes at 2.25 is a straight fight between Goldophin and Ballydoyle. Last year it was the same scenario the Lion in Winter got the better of Ruling Court.

Although, the betting this season favours the Goldophin runner Distant Storm I think Italy has for several months been touted as one of Ballydoyle’s leading 2yo’s and I think the Newmarket race he contested was a complete mess and can be ignored.

Lion In Winter in 2024 left the Acomb stakes as the 2025 Derby Favourite and it is very possible Italy could occupy that position for the 2026 running of the Blue Riband event.

Selection Italy 2.25 York

The Great Voltigeur at 3.00pm is all about the Derby winner Lambourn. In yesterday’s article i reported a lack of confidence about the favourite who was then 8/13. At 4.00pm on Tuesday he is available at 10/11 and is likely to be boosted to around 7/4 with some of the leading firms.

If he is allowed to go off Evs or bigger it is a race to avoid as O’Brien has three other runners and anything can happen.

No Bet recommended

Another Ballydoyle – Goldophin match up. I can’t get over my view that Ombudsman lost the Eclipse rather than the finishing burst of speed from Delacroix being the deciding factor.

I am sure given the ride again William Buick and Ombudsman would win the race easily. He is 3lb better off with Delacroix and with the pacemaker employed Buick will get him into a nice rhythm and prove himself alongside Calandagan as the top middle distance horse in Europe.

The danger is that the Japanese raider maybe better than the European horses as was the case in Meydan when he beat the afore mentioned Calandagan.

However Meydan form is often difficult to back up in Europe and in a season where we predicted the return of the Gosden’s to the top table, Ombudsman can win this and confirm the outstanding season for Clarehaven.

The significance of the draw will potentially be a big factor here. Of those at the head of the market Utmost Respect and Dublin Bay are relatively well drawn in 8 and 6. Where as Old is Gold, Shaman Champion and River Spey are poorly drawn.

The Richard Fahey yard has had a miserable season but has slightly turned the corner. They have won this race 3 times in the last 10 years and Utmost Respect has the look of a horse that has been plotted up for this race with a yard looking to make the best of the second half of the season.

Selection Utmost Respect.
