Double Up on Monday

Somerville Lodge start the week with two entries one in the 2.30 at Carlisle and one at Windsor in the finale at 7.30.

I fully expect both to win. Ceiren Fallon goes to Carlisle to ride Hardy’s Hero who was an impressive winner at Haydock despite drifting in the market.

The stiff 6f track will suit this strong travelling 2yo colt who comes from the Carisbrooke Stud ( Tenability, Klassleader etc) and I expect him to win here and then progress to stakes company or possibly a high value Nursery at one of the Premier tracks

When Haggas sends 2yo’s to contest Novice Stakes races in August, September and October to Carlisle and Haydock he has a 50% win strike rate over the last 5 years and Hardy’s Hero was also entered in a hot looking contest at Haydock on Thursday.

The price of 6/4 is very good and has been offered because of an expensive Wathnan newcomer Lunar Model making her debut for Richard Fahey. However with juveniles on debut after the 1st August over the last 5 years Fahey has sent out just 4 winners from 102 starts.

The stiffer track and soft ground will suit Hardy’s Hero and he looks a good thing. I am prepared to bet below the normal 7/4 minimum and take 6/4.

Recommended Bet 3pt Win Hardy’s Hero 2.30 Carlisle

In the 7.30 the final race of the evening racing schedule at Windsor, Silver Chamber can outclass her 10 opponents.

Owned by Opulence Thoroughbreds who are enjoying a great run of success with the likes Addison Grey, Sukanya and Royal Fixation she improved considerably when winning a 4 runner handicap at Ripon.

The runner up subsequently won a Class 4 handicap in the Racing League (should have been 2) and the balance of that form is far in excess of anything shown by her rivals on Monday.

Silver Chamber should be on a hat trick. The fact she managed to finish 2nd over course and distance two outings ago, when she pulled her way through the first 9f of the race, suggested she is someway ahead of her mark.

Most of the rivals face the prospects of cold winter nights chasing Class 6 money at Wolverhampton or the chance of jumping hurdles around Plumpton, Taunton etc. Jumping hurdles may not be a problem to Silver Chamber as she is a half sister to Absurde. That bloodline does though emphasis the class difference she has over her rivals. Drawn in Stall 1 I expect her to be prominently ridden on or just off the pace, as was the case at Ripon, and then power to victory through the final 2f.

Haggas is 11 from 21 in 3yo handicaps at Windsor in July, August and September and that includes the last two that have beaten. We didn’t back either as they looked entries made more in hope than judgement. Silver Chamber looks to have been targeted at this race and she can give the owners group, many of whom will be in attendance, a great evening out by the Thames.

It’s unusual for me to go this big early in the week but they look to be good bets

Silver Chamber 2pt 7.30 Windsor.15/8 or better
