High Level Autumn Campaign Kicks Off…

The Haggas operation is so successful because of its patience and meticulous planning. Those of you that have followed my 2025 Diary of a Season on a daily basis will appreciate now how they function.

Haggas has announced that he will have between 40-50 older horses (4yo+) in training next season. By my calculations they have only had 30 this year with 17 contesting Group or listed races.

The switch in emphasis can only mean that they believe the patient approach will pay even bigger dividends and for the rest of the season it is important to invest when we are sure certain races have been part of a plan that includes a campaign next season.

The performances of More Thunder, Godwinson, Bullet Point, Santorini Star, and Sam Hawkens all of whom have won at least 2 handicaps as 4yo’s gives ample proof that the 2025/2026 season will be even more profitable than the current season. Especially as this years current crop of 2yo’s are well behind previous years in terms of being racecourse ready and have huge scope for improvement as 3yo’s.

Some of you will have noted a slight change of stance with our bets in recent weeks looking to focus on horses with potential to progress as 4 and 5yo’s rather than horses competing now to increase their sales value in the Autumn and for fillies their immediate stud value. Although of course in contests where they have a great chance of success we will invest.

Thursday features the next run of Pearla a filly with massive scope for progression. Whilst already being a winner and her high paddock value secured now by getting ‘Bold Black Type’ in listed and Group company will take that value to a different level.

Her first shot at listed level is at Longchamp on Thursday in the 1m6f listed race at 6.10. She takes on a field of 9 French trained fillies, where the form ties in with the Haggas trained Chorus who has a best RPR of 105. To date Pearla has only achieved a rating of 99. However the extra trip, soft ground and the time she has been given to strengthen up suggests she is more than up to the task.

Although odds on to win her maiden at Kempton, although there were doubts about the market price when introduced at around 4/5 she was very heavily backed into 4/9. James Doyle rode her like a very good horse dominating from the front and powering clear to win by 5L.

On her second outing she had divided a pair of Goldophin fillies who are now both listed winners, and this could be a stepping stone to a career in higher grade Group company.

There is always a risk that the first time travelling overseas can prove too much, as was the case with Scoville at Deauville, which is why I will only be having a 1pt bet.

Marquand takes the ride as James Doyle is easing himself back into action at Haydock after a bout of illness in order to be ready for Lassat on Saturday.

There were several similar options for her in the UK but Haggas has a great record when sending horses to France, he is nearly 30% in Listed races, and I think she is more than up to this task. I have generally steered clear of of these listed fillies contests but Pearla looks well worth an investment, i will take SP as it is based on Pari Mutual returned odds and will be better than UK bookmakers prices. This looks more than a filly hoping to pick up Black type. This is more of a plan to win a stakes race and then take on board Group 1 and 2 quality fillies.

Recommended Bet 1pt win Pearla 6.10 Longchamp take S.P.

The yard send out a team of four at Haydock on Thursday but it is really important that we get accurate ground reports before investing and I will be recommending all bets from Thursday onwards with a report posted at 8.00am each race day.
