Almeraq Update

The lack of rain has put a brake on the September profits with the dry lead up to Haydock costing us a couple of winners in The Reverend and Valiancy although they would not have been sent off around 4/1 had the rain arrived.

The set up for both races was perfect, and enabled them to overcome the conditions which had looked on the fast side.

The biggest setback occured at Beverley last weekend when Crown of Oaks was withdrawn after we backed him at 3/1 in a race that was inferior to the race he won on Saturday at 8/11. He is now favourite for the Cambridgeshire at 5/1 although he is not certain to run especially if the ground was to be fast.

Abloom was gifted the handicap at 3.50 but the stables good fortune ran out when Binhareer was very unlucky not to collect the Ascot Sprint at 4.25, although the earlier victory of Tenability backed at 9/2 secured the profit on the day.

It looks like we will lose the 1pt Ante Post bet on Almeraq at 6/1 for the Ayr Gold Cup. However with one eye on the weather at York during racing on Sunday he could well be worth a 1pt bet at 12/1 for the Champion Sprint at Ascot on the 18th October.

Rain or not, the ground at York should have enough give in it for him to win, he has been heavily supported from 2/1 to 6/5 in places. However if there is rain at the track before the race, some Apps are predicting it may start at around 2.30 and the ground is soft , there is a possibility he will win as easily as Crown of Oaks today, in which case given the result of the Betfair Sprint at Haydock today he will be promoted to be favourite for the Ascot race.

The word I am getting is that given the right conditions Almeraq is a Group 1 winner in waiting.
