As we approach the final stages of the Diary of the Season for 2025. There is an opportunity to invest at Goodwood on Wednesday on a horse that has been prepared to win the 4.45 in a way that William Haggas excels.
In this 14f handicap he has had 6 runners this century. Two 4yo’s have been placed 3rd and 4th and four 3yo’s all have WON.
Finalise goes to make 5 from 5 on Wednesday Lets look at the comparisons with the other four.
- Each of the four was rated between 82 – 87. Finalise runs of 84
- On each occasion the ground was Soft or Heavy. The ground will be soft
- 2 of the 4 had ran previously at Windsor. Finalise was 2nd at Windsor
- 2 of the 4 had ran at Ffos Las. Finalise was 2nd at Ffos Las
- 3 of the 4 had Won on the AW – Finalise won at Kempton
It is no coincidence- Finalise may of course get beat. However, the impressive nature of her win by 12L over a subsequent winner at Kempton, given what looks a reasonable mark of 84 and a clear preference for cut in the ground there seems little doubt that this race has been the target since Kempton.
I doubted her ability to win at a trip less than 2m before Kempton but the emphatic nature of that win dispelled those doubts. She has also been given an entry in the Class 2 Old Rowley Mile Handicap at Newmarket in October which suggests the Somerville Lodge team believe she is better than this grade.
The opposition looks to have considerably less scope for improvement. The Irish raider Steps in the Sand races here 23lb above her winning mark in a handicap at Bellowstown in July. Spirit Of Jura, Incensed, Personal Best will have to put up lifetime best performances. The other 3yo’s Simply Jura, Likealot and Music Piece need to prove they will get the trip on the soft ground and Dancingwithmyself seems best on All Weather surfaces.
That leaves last years runner up Crystal Flyer as the main danger but he has to give 11lb weight for age which will be tough in the ground and has been priced up at 33/1 which only emphasises the chance of Finalise.
Recommended Bet: This is everything and more required for a 3pt bet. Given the puzzling state of the markets presently. I recommend 2pt win at the opening show price of 11/4 with BET 365 and 1pt win BOG after 8.00am Weds.
There is now a doubt about whether Touleen will run in the Group 2 Rockfel on Friday or wait for the Group 1 Bet 365 Fillies Mile in October. I have therefore taken a 0.5pt Insurance saver at 8/1 with Sky Bet, Paddy Power.
She is working brilliantly which is why connections are considering the option to go for the Group 1
Recommended Bet 0.5pt win saver Touleen Bet 365 Fillies Mile Newmarket
