Hag Tag -September in Review

A seventh month in profit but without doubt a month where the highs and lows were extreme. What stood out was the importance of sticking to the rules and processes.

Although not recorded, a significant profit was made by followers who make the most of the golden rule of not backing the Haggas 2yo’s on debut and lay any that are sent off 1st or 2nd in the markets. All 7 got beaten this month including 3 odds on favourites.

From a backing point of view it was a roller coaster. With big 3pt bet losers Almeraq, (Fell), Crown of Oaks, Danielle, Touleen, and Finalise but recovered by the win of Eternal Force who drifted from 7/2 to 10/1.

Scandinavia at 5/1 in the St Leger saved the Ante Post book making up for the losses on Crown of Oaks, Hamish both withdrawn because the forecast rain failed to materialise and of course Touleen who was a massive disappointment in the Rockfel.

We had bets on several massive gambles starting with Respond 14/1 to 2/1 (3rd) Caviar Heights 7/1 – 3/1 (u/p) and Realign 16/1 – 15/8 Won Treasure Time 25/1 – 12/1 (u/p). We broke a rule in backing Treasure Time as the Haggas record in the Cambridgeshire is dismal and we paid the price of following Treasure Time ‘over the cliff.’

No Bets for the remaining days of September but there is real anticipation of a bumper October where if ground conditions come right several of the stable stars look more than capable of delivering.

Starting next week with More Thunder in the Prix de la Foret on Sunday at Longchamp. Others entered next week include Realign who will be sent out to defy a penalty, probably at Ascot. The Berkshire venue also features entries for Tenability, Arabian Force and Another Abbot
