Seven months ago Alobayyah was nominated as one of Tom Marquand’s five to follow with the hope that she would develop into a Group 1 Oaks filly. Now in the middle of October she heads to Newcastle to contest a 10f minor stakes race worth under 4,000 to the winner.
She has only had 1 run this season at the end of August, which reflected the problems she has had from 2 to 3 finishing 8th beaten by 10L albeit in a Group 3 race at Sandown. To make matters worse she was struck into during the race and on Tuesday attempts to get some sort of return from a season that could hardly have been any worse.
The realities of racing at the highest level are highlighted by the 8 fillies that contested the 2yo Novice Stakes at Yarmouth that she won almost a year ago.
Here is the list of the 2yo’s that took part and connections:
Alobayyah trained by William Haggas (sire Night of Thunder)
Regal Agenda trained by Karl Burke ( sire Pinatubo)
Star Cast trained by Sir Mark Prescott( sire Almanzour)
Tequila owned by Amo Racing (sire Siyouni)
Blazing Spirit Charlie Appleby (sire Ghaiyyath)
Word of Mouth James Ferguson (sire Wootten Bassett)
Wajbah John and Thady Gosden (sire Galiway)
Bright Future Charlie Appleby (sire Kingman)
The reality despite being trained by the leading yards and sired by many top stallions including probably the top 3 in the world right now, is that the victory in this race by Alobayyah is still the only win to be recorded by any of the 8 fillies that ran.
The only runner from the Haggas yard on Tuesday Alobayyah will probably be a short price to make it No 2 . Based on the evidence 8/13 is not a price i would take.
No Bet Recommended.
With nothing on Wednesday and Thursday, Friday offers a possible opportunity but after another frustrating day on Monday the season is likely to end with only a couple more bets.
