Yarmouth has been the venue for many leading Somerville Lodge 2yo’s to learn about racing especially In the Autumn months. The win strike rate in the last 10 years is 50% with 2yo’s running at Yarmouth sent off 1,2,3 in the market. Significantly several of the fillies progressed onto listed and group races.
Probably the most eye catching performance by a Haggas trained 2yo this season was the debut run of Fractional at Doncaster. She has been given just over a month to recover and reappears in a hot looking Yarmouth Novice stakes at 2.35 with several leading yards sending out very well bred fillies.
The form of the Doncaster race has worked out well with three of the four that finished in front of her winning including Amelia Earhart winning a maiden by 7l and a rating in excess of a 100. Fractional may still need to improve to win this, however she looks certain to do so and it will take a very useful filly to beat her.
The early markets had her at 9/2 which unsurprisingly lasted about 10 minutes, as normal with Haggas horses the bookies have now over corrected into 2/1 and its worth now waiting for BOG
We have had zero luck with our bets on 2yo’s this month but I don’t see it as anything other than unforeseen circumstances counting against us and the tide will turn hopefully on Tuesday. There is of course a possibility that the Goldolphin filly Ottoman Empress is top drawer and the frustration will continue but the promise of Fractional’s first run was too good not to back her on Tuesday.

In the handicap at 4.05 Silver Chamber will be favourite to record a second victory of her career. She is ultra consistent but she is up in the weights for coming second a few times. In at least two of those occasions she looked to have every chance to win but found a way to get beat.
She doesn’t appeal as a horse to back at short odds and I will let her run without a financial interest.
