Although we got it right avoiding Silver Chamber, the Somerville Lodge 2yo’s continue to be underwhelming and despite being heavily backed Fractional was still very green and ultimately disappointing only finishing 3rd.
With heavy ground forecast at the weekend and the below average form of the 2yo’s there is no point hoping for a strong couple of bets when they just don’t exist. I suspect there will be very little activity if any moving forward on the Turf this season as the work begins on next season.
Eight horses go to post on Wednesday at Newmarket and Kempton.
Four of them are unraced 2yo’s.Guesstimate and Henrietta Ronner debut in the 1.48 Newmaket. Thunder Call in the 2.23 and at Kempton in the 5.10 Zennor Storm.
As always a watching brief is advised.
Also in the 2.23 at Newmarket Eklleem runs for the second time but he was weak at the finish on debut and that is a good indicator they need more time – no bet is the advice.
In the Novice at 4.43 Poetry of Time will be backed to win at the 3rd time of asking having been runner up on his last two runs. That form is weak and given the overall frustration with the yards juveniles – he is far too risky for betting purposes.
No Bet Recommended.
Tom Marquand goes to Kempton principally to ride Wild Dahlia in the Nursery at 6.05 and Dramatic Star in the 2m handicap at 7.40. Both horses have winning form on the AW and are of some interest.
Wild Dahlia looks well treated off an opening mark of 76 but so does Dryburgh off a mark of 75 and there are several reasons that lead me to think he could be very well treated. A line can be put through his last run. His previous 3rd at Chepstow has been boosted by the runner up Laazm who was only 1/2 length ahead of Dryburgh Won a York Nursery off a mark of 83.
Billy Loughnane is a significant booking as he is 4 from 7 when riding in Handicaps or Nursery’s for Chapple Hymn when they are 1,2,3,4 in the market. WIld Dahlia has a habit of dwelling in the stalls and with the potential improver Dryburgh lurking I will watch without having a bet especially given the very short price of 11/8.
No Bet Recommended
Finally Dramatic Star is sent to Kempton to contest the feature race the 2m handicap at 7.40.
His form behind stable mate The Reverend at Haydock looks very strong but he disappointed at Newbury although the race may have come too soon after Haydock and the ground softer than ideal.
However, he is proven on the AW but in a race where most of the other market leaders also have something too prove this looks a very trappy contest.
The likely favourite Prydwen is better going left handed and Synergism is still 7lb higher than his last win. Prince of the Seas is going backwards and Artisan Dancer has seconditus.
Although the Newbury run was disappointing a repeat of that, strictly on form, would give Dramatic Star a real chance of winning this. On his Haydock form he would be clear favourite.
The step up to 2m and a high draw will give Marquand a decision to make either drop in or go forward. There looks to be very little pace in the race does he get across early from stall 10 and be handy throughout or drop in?
All in all there is far too much guesswork involved and although he is probably the best chance of a winner on the day, NO BET RECOMMENDED
