Transformational Betting for 2026

Thursday calm before the storm..

There are just two runners on Thursday before weather permitting Somerville Lodge throws everything but the kitchen sink at the meetings on Friday and Saturday, more on that tomorrow. We got it right at Newmarket on Wednesday with all the 2yo’s beaten including 2 well backed favourites.

Although Zenner Storm became only the 2nd unraced 2yo winner for the yard this season at Kempton winning at 6/1.

Two runners on the AW on Thursday headed by Mamma Maria who goes to Southwell in the fillies handicap at 5.30 in a bid to go one better than her 2nd place at Chelmsford last time out. That form was boosted when the winner Naga won again at Newmarket on Wednesday.

She has every chance and has largely been consistent this season apart from a run on soft ground at Thirsk which didn’t suit her. There are a couple of improvers in the field that are problematical. Live Each Day who was trained at Somerville Lodge as a 2yo seemed to show a new level of form for Stuart Willliams when winning at Kempton and Ghaiyyath Park who has his first run for James Tate and potentially could be throw in from a mark of 67.

Its a race where the market will be very informative, if there is significant support for either Live Each Day or Ghaiyyath Park there is every chance they will be good enough to beat Mamma Maria, especially the latter as Tate has a clear form line through his Waiting for Love who is on a par with Mamma Maria on the Chelmsford race.

Over the past 4 seasons James Tate has an exceptional record at Southwell In Class 3,4,5,6 handicaps going of 1,2,3,4 in the market.

From 22 Runners there has been a level stakes profit of 26.25 points.

  • 10 Winners
  • 6 placed 2nd
  • 3 placed 3rd
  • 1 placed 4th
  • 2 placed 5th

Further confidence is added by the fact that Rossa Ryan is on board and he has a 36% strike rate when riding 3yo’s for Tate over the last 5 years. Ghaiyyath Park has been put in at 7/1 which is too big

Recommended Bet 1pt win Ghaiyyath Park 0.5pt Saver Mamma Maria.

At Chelmsford in the 6.15 Surprise Rally will be the outsider of 5 and will have to improve 20-30lb from debut to get involved.
