Cerelia – An exciting debutant on Tuesday.

The Wathnan owned filly Cerelia is an exciting newcomer for the Haggas team on Tuesday at Newcastle and is the yards sole runner on the day.

The 3yo has the potential to be a top class filly bred from the world leading Ballylinch Stud by Wootton Bassett out of an Oasis Dream mare she cost 400,000 euro’s as a yearling and was expected to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Henri Matisse, First Look and Cramers also bred by Ballylinch Stud.

One of the biggest disappointments of 2025 for Somerville Lodge was the performance of another Ballylinch Stud bred, expensive (425,000e) Wathnan owned, filly Pearla who was thought to be potentially Group class, after winning at Kempton – but flopped when running in a listed race at Longchamp.

Clearly the fact that she is only now ready for the track indicates more than a few hiccups on the way but it will be fascinating to see how she performs.

The statistics with unraced 3yo horses trained by the Haggas team making belated Autumn debuts as 3yo’s is scant but encouraging for would be backers. 4 from the stable ( 3 fillies ) in the last 5 years have gone off 1,2,3,4 in the market with 2 winners, 1 2nd and 1 3rd

There has to be a question mark as to why James Doyle is not riding but Wathnan Racing, for the first time this year, have had a highly successful Autumn campaign with their horses winning 11 races from 33 starts in October and 2 from 4 in the UK in November.

This is a weak contest and if she has shown anything at home she could well be odds on with the very disappointing Forest Caper rated 73 looking the only danger.

From a betting point of view the price will ultimately be the deciding factor, however there is an argument to make that her value in the paddocks will be higher if she remained unraced than if she runs and is poor on the track. This would suggest given she will turn 4 in January the Haggas team believe she can win this poor race which will enhance rather than diminish her value.

The evening price of 6/4 was predictable but much will depend on what happens in the morning before it will be possible to gauge the extent of stable confidence, however it will be too short for our betting purposes.

Fallon is riding on a crest of a wave at the moment and gave Mission Possible a great ride for that high profile filly to gain that oh so important and valuable first victory on Monday. Getting victories for these valuable fillies is crucial, the yard will be buoyed by the success of Mission Possible and there is every chance Cerelia can follow her stable mate into the winners enclosure on Tuesday.

Hag Tag 01 December 2025.
