With a record of 1-24 on the AW surfaces this year , patience has been high on the list of attributes required by William Haggas followers. However, as indicated before the races were ran, there have been few if any runners expected to deliver.
We advised of the dangers of supporting the horses that have gone to post so far this month, all of whom were well beaten at relatively short odds.
The appearance of Wiltshire in the 3.10 at Lingfield on Saturday a Class 2 7f handicap offers some light at the end of the tunnel. The 7yo was a big eye-catcher when running on late over 6f at Newcastle, a performance, that gave every indication that despite a year off he retains all of his ability. Dropped to a mark of 98, in my opinion the plan is to return to Gosforth Park on Good Friday on AW finals day.
7f downhill and round the bend is almost opposite too what the gelding needs to show his best and I don’t see him winning on Saturday despite the small field of six runners. Its an odd race with question marks over all 6 runners and from a betting viewpoint its one to watch.
This will however set him up nicely for Good Friday where he will be a decent price and worth a bet to land that big prize and reward the patience connections have shown him.
