King of Earth – Seasonal debut Sunday

The 2026 Flat season has been given a superb platform from which to build by the career change of Constitutional Hill and the early appearance of Albert Einstein at the Curragh.

The flat season reaches an early peak and within six weeks the Guineas will have been run and we will be just a few weeks away from Epsom and Royal Ascot.

In the next 4 weeks there will be many ‘talking horses’ pushed into the limelight, some will enhance their reputation but a majority will be reassessed and sent down the handicap route.

It is rare for the William Haggas team to embark on the merry go round at this Doncaster meeting, and it is probably a very positive sign that two of the yards classic entries are sent to Town Moor this weekend. We have mentioned the high regard with which the 2026 3yo crop is held in previous articles.

Super Crown enters the fray in the 10f maiden on Saturday, but the more interesting declaration is confirmation that the 2000 Guineas entry King of Earth will head to post at Doncaster in the 7f Novice Stakes at 2.20 on Sunday.

With the 86 rated Karl Burke trained Naval Light, probably the only 2yo from Spigot Lodge that disappointed last season and the 11 length Southwell winner, the Charlie Appleby trained, Tales of Wisdom in the line up, this will be a thorough test.

Those following these blogs will already know backing Haggas horses in Novices and Maidens are no longer seen as a viable betting opportunity.

However a clear success for King Of Earth, will create tremendous anticipation at Somerville Lodge for the season ahead and confidence they have the ammunition to go head to head with the likes of Burke, Appleby and Gosden at the major festivals this season.

REFA HAG TAG March 2026.
