With good ground forecast and the Turf season creeping into top gear, whilst most eyes will be on Aintree there are likely to be some quality 3yo’s on show at Yarmouth this Saturday.
William Haggas tends to save his most promising maidens for Newmarket and Newbury next week, but whatever Charlie Appleby sends to this meeting are usually ready to win.
He sends out the Group placed maiden at 2 – Del Maro in the 2.37 and will be odds on to break his tag before returning to Group races. His presence is the reason there are only 5 runners – he has an official rating of 101 and any horse that runs well and beaten a couple of lengths is likely to get a handicap mark in the high 90’s which can in effect be curtains for the season unless it has genuine Group race potential.
The course winner Ottoman Express will be fancied to defy a penalty in the fillies Novice at 3.12 and give William Buick a double, who rides at the meeting just over 12 hours from riding Notable Speech at Keeneland on Friday night.
However, it is the start of period of racing where most eyes will be looking towards the future rather than immediate betting opportunities.
As for Somerville Lodge they continue with the ‘softly-softly’ approach sending 3 well bred horses to Yarmouth that will benefit from the experience. The horses look great but the 3yo’s are just in need of the race.
Bintsaleh goes to post for the second time in the 10f fillies novice stakes at 3.12. She will come up against the Appleby filly Ottoman Empire and the unraced Gosden filly I’m the One.
Al Maslool runs in the 1m restricted novice stakes at 4.25, after which he will be qualified for a handicap mark.
Weheedd debuts in the 1m Novice Stakes at 5.05 where he faces three potentially very useful last time out winners, with the Gosden trained Organise apparently working in the style of a Group Horse.
Back for Sunday shortly – with a 3pt bet at Musselburgh and in the meantime good luck with your Grand National picks.
