The Haggas yard avoid Newmarket on Dewhurst Day. However with the focus on top 2yo’s it has never been a day to target for Somerville Lodge.
The yard have only sent out 1 winner at Newmarket on this day in the past 10 years, whereas there have been 6 at York, it is therefore no surprise that all 5 runners on Saturday head for York with zero at Newmarket.
Division starts off the day in the Rockingham Stakes at 1.30. The Wathnan owned 2yo was considered as a possible to move straight into Group company after his win at Yarmouth. They have though decided that is a step too far and have gone for this listed race.
Looking through the field they are well exposed but at least 5 have higher ratings than Division – with a draw in 8 Tom Marquand can decide where he wants to go in the race. However the Haggas juveniles have been more backward than ever this year with this horse being the first to run in Listed or Group company. In previous seasons there have been a minimum of 5 and as many as 11 by mid October.
The yard has sent out 2 previous winners of this race but both had experience of running well in Group races or big field sales stakes races and were near the top of the ratings. I just think the Haggas factor has heavily impacted the early price of 3/1 and he should be a 6/1 chance.

In the big York sprint at 3.15 Binhareer will probably go off favourite following his good run in the Ayr Silver Cup. However he has not run before at York and the ground will be plenty quick enough. He will have to come from off the pace, which is also not the preferred option on the straight track at York and I will wait for next season when he gets his ground. He will certainly win races off this market of 89.

Marshdi is another 2yo running for the yard that will be well fancied but this is a very trappy Novice Stakes with 4 or 5 in the field that could be useful. His Ascot conqueror Esna ran really well against Diamond Necklace at Longchamp which will i suspect cause Marshdi to go off at a very short unbackable price.

Finally in the 4.30 Molten Sea runs before her appearance in the Horses in Training sale. She has regressed as the season has moved forward. I had high hopes that she would win 2 or 3 handicaps and after a couple of really disappointing runs, one of which was here at York, she needs a big bounce back following a break.

I appreciate that is 15 No Bet Recommendations over Friday and Saturday but thats the reality of this time of year. Last weekend the yard were 0-14.
