Despite his finishing position (16 of 27 ) Realign was a big eye catcher in the Stewards Cup and the handicapper has seen fit to drop him 2lb in the ratings to a mark of 96 – just 4lb higher than his easy victory at Carlisle in April.
If he can get to race on genuine good ground on a straight track, possibly Haydock where he is a previous course winner, he has a major chance of winning a nice handicap.
Other new marks to note from Goodwood – Silver Lake as expected went up 9lb for her win but that still leaves her on a mark of 86. I am pretty sure her next race will be the 10.5f Class 2 EBF Fillies Heritage Handicap at York. 3yo fillies have a good record in the race and it was won last year by Cape Flora who was a similar type of fast improving 3yo.
Also York bound, all being well, in the Melrose Handicap will be Infraad he got a 7lb hike for his controversial win on the Sussex Downs. He only beat Hatteen (up 6lb) a head but they pulled 4 lengths clear of a strong field. The 7lb looks fair and I would expect him to confirm form with the Balding horse at York.
Both Infraad and Silver Lake are likely to be at the head of the market for their respective races.
Mondays impressive winner Venetian Lion was put up 5lb to a mark of 70 for his previous unlucky 2nd place finish at Southwell. That is likely to go up to 80 next Tuesday after his facile win at Nottingham on Monday. If all is well he maybe out again, under a penalty, with a couple of races at Hamilton next Tuesday a possibility.
Divine Knight was dropped 2lb for his continued struggles on fast ground at Newmarket. That puts him 3lb lower than when failing to land a gamble from 11/2 – 9/4 on Soft ground at Ayr. He failed to settle in that race but wasn’t discredited and is not in anyway a horse to give up on. Once he gets decent good ground or softer, ridden more patiently he remains a ready made winner. I will be amazed if Haggas doesn’t get a win out of this 5yo.
Just one runner on Wednesday in the shape of Pure Majesty the highly regarded half sister to Sky Majesty. Despite, the hype before her debut at Newmarket she drifted like a barge on the day.
As seems the case with many Haggas runners at Newmarket she was drawn in stall 1 and having struggled to get cover was starting to make progress when stopped in her run. I don’t think she would have finished far behind the 4th placed Appleby trained Sorrengail who next time out easily won a Class 3 at Ascot reversing the form with Speed of Sound who now runs in this Yarmouth contest and is the likely market leader .
There is always a chance at Yarmouth you can see a high class juvenile – I think that could well be Pure Majesty and I will be very surprised if she is not the subject of a big gamble. Take the 9/2-4/1 early prices if you can?
The bookmakers continue to over react to any sign of support for Somerville Lodge runners. National Pride on Tuesday was backed from 6/1 into 11/8 but was beaten by the original favorite Waakabb with the 3rd 8l back. It feels disappointing but he ran perfectly well and is a sure fire future winner. The reverse can also be the case – the debutant Flag Bearer on whom Tom Marquand chose to ride at Ffos Los over National Pride at Catterick, drifted from 6/4 to 11/2.
