Undoubtedly one of the most disappointing runs of the season from a Somerville Lodge horse by Pure Majesty at Yarmouth yesterday evening who has been touted as a potential useful filly from early summer. It wasn’t quite in the Saber Strike mode but was still difficult viewing.
She looked to have gone backwards from her Newmarket debut and although excuses will probably be made surrounding the fast ground, she looked not to enjoy racing and cannot be followed with any confidence until she proves otherwise.
August is a month when following the Haggas 2yo’s that have had previous experience can produce a high level of profits. So far Northern Pride and Pure Majesty have failed to deliver but this afternoons juveniles have been the subject of heavy market support.
At Brighton Regalism now 13/8 from 5/2 and the Newmarket raider Fast Performer 10/11 from 15/8 are two of the best backed horses of the day, Fingers crossed they get the job done and we can follow up with several other very strong recommendations for juveniles entered over the weekend.
This season has seen a dent in the level of confidence when supporting the Haggas horses who, on firm ground will not be given hard races if they show signs of not fully accelerating to the full in the final stages of their races. it is very apparent that some horses will act on fast ground once but not on a second or third occasion.
At Chepstow Windbreaker is dropped in trip but up in class in the 8f handicap at 7.05. He has refused to settle despite 10f looking to be the right trip for the son of Sea The Stars. The gelding has been beaten on his last 5 starts sent off at 3/1 or less on each occasion. He is a big drifter from 11/4 out to 9/2 and is best watched.
Also unsurprisingly given the prevailing fast ground for the Group 3 Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown Needle Match is on the slide from 7/2 out to 5/1. Hopefully, he will run well and get his season back on track after the 2,000 Guineas.
Confirmed Bets from last night 1pt win each Fast Performer 3.30 Newmarket 5/4 and Regalise 3.13 Brighton 9/4
