The decision to withdraw Morshdi from the Dee Stakes at Chester due to false patches of ground was painful with the 4/1 Ante-Post bets written into the loss column in the P/L.
However treating ‘ triumph and disaster’ with the same level of respect is key to punting . Just 7 days later the 3yo looks to have been handed an excellent opportunity to win a bigger prize – the Group 2 Dante Stakes at York.
The field does not look the strongest for a Dante and many of the leading players are strong staying types not best suited to the 10f trip on the fast flat surface of the Knavesmire- conditions that suit horses ridden prominently.
Morshdi looks to be the only contender that will be ideally suited to the make up of the race . He will be ridden prominently and I expect his superior speed to be the key factor . Ballydoyle has a poor record in the race no winners since 2010, the Gosden pair look likely to need further as does the Andrew Balding trained Item.
We won’t get the 4/1 we had for the Dee Stakes but 7/2 looks fair enough.
