Thursday was a very good day with our only bet Earth Shot landing the Ribblesdale and our suspicion that Morshdi had gone backwards was unfortunately for connections correct. Hopefully some of you followed the tip I passed on for Moonfall in the Britannia in the morning update on Thursday, his young Australian jockey Zac Lloyd is top class.
Eklleem justified evens to break his maiden at Redcar. The two maidens at Lingfield Al Maslool and Windbreaker still need to settle better but showed enough promise to suggest they will win races soon and as expected the Aga Khan filly Calasita won the listed race at Longchamp ahead of the Haggas pair Sea the Storm disappointing in 7th but Pierian taking another step forward finishing 4th.
Friday update
Ascot 15.05
The high draw bias so important over the first 3 days will get tested In this Group 1, by the Haggas runner Division on the far side in stall 3. For some reason low numbers seem to fair well in the Commonwealth Cup the last 4 winners have been drawn 1,4,1 and 1. It will be interesting to see if the low numbers come to the fore on Friday and Saturday this year as has been the case previously, but its not something to bet on with confidence.
Team ‘Tony Bloom’ has been quiet so far this week, that is expected to change on Friday and Saturday with Venetian Sun and Lake Forest coming to the party.
15.05 Ascot Friday Division No Bet Recommended.
Ascot 15.40
The early market with the ‘Haggas tax’ still added has Opportunity still around 5/1 that will not be the case at the off, and he may easily go off at 7/1 or bigger. The forecast gamble on the royal runner Warrant Holder who is drawn in stall 17 has happened 7/1-7/2.
15.40 Ascot Friday Opportunity No Bet Recommended.
Zooming has drifted to a price of 20/1 and will do well to get into the first six places given her draw in stall 9 and doubts over her stamina.
Zooming 17.00 Friday No Bet Recommended
20 minutes earlier at Redcar Guesstimate is available at 9/1 in the 16.40 10f Handicap
I thought we would get value – the 9/1 is a big price. I have taken out some EW insurance but remain confident she will go very close.
Recommended Bet 2pt win Guesstimate 4.40 Redcar. (Added 0.75 place)
Also at Redcar a very interesting 3yo gelding New Poetic makes his debut for the yard having previously been trained by Jessica Harrington in Ireland.
His price this morning of 15/8 is good but the race has the makings of a messy affair and I will just watch without investing.
No Bet Recommended

Quiet Ascot so far for team ‘Bloom’ set to change on Friday and Saturday.
