Potential Star entered for debut on Friday…

I think it’s fair to say that few people see the sense of meetings at Newmarket, Ascot at York running concurrently on Friday and Saturday this week. It is what it is, and it kicks off on Thursday with the start of the 3 day July festival at Newmarket..

Before then on Tuesday and Wednesday, Somerville Lodge have a couple of runners – Consecrated takes a shot at black type in the Listed contest at Pontefract on Tuesday at 2.48 and Ancestor runs in the maiden at Yarmouth on Wednesday at 3.45. It is fair to say both have each way chances at best and would be surprise winners.

Given the overall performances of the yards horses last week , it was a very positive sign to see Lady Rosalind win on her second outing at Ripon on Monday to give us the start to the week we were looking for. She was the first 2yo to win for Haggas in 2026 and leads me to another that could take top rank

If she makes her debut on Friday in the 4.10 at Newmarket Pure Majesty the unraced half sister to Sky Majesty will be of considerable interest. It maybe the ground is considered too fast and she isn’t declared.

However by all accounts she is considered potentially Group class and will be by far the most promising 2yo to run from Somerville Lodge so far this season.

Sky Majesty won on her debut in late August and then won at Group 3 and Group 2 level as a juvenile. The fact that Pure Majesty, who like Sky Majesty is also owned by the Tony Bloom team, is even entered in July is a strong indicator that she could be heading into Group race company as a 2yo. The fillies out of her dam Majestic Alexander all seem to perform best as 2 and 3 yo’s and it makes sense to start her career sooner rather than later.

As expected Yabher was the only entry from the yard confirmed for Saturdays John Smith Cup at York. He is second best in the market at 6/1 behind the Gosden’s runner Warrant Holder who heads the betting at 9/2.

I don’t think that is especially good value and I am happy to wait until the 48 declaration stage and draw before getting involved.
